Frequently asked questions and guidance for using Shiori Diary with confidence.
Where is my diary data stored?
Your diary data is stored on your device. It is not sent to a developer server or third-party service by the app.
Can I use the app without camera, microphone, or location access?
Yes. You can save text and mood entries without those permissions. Each permission is only needed for its related optional feature.
How do I change permissions?
Open the iPhone Settings app, select Shiori Diary, and change access for Camera, Microphone, Speech Recognition, Location, or Photos.
Can I avoid saving recorded audio?
Turn off “Save audio in diary” on the entry screen. Your voice can still be used for transcription without attaching the recording to the entry.
Are the main diary features free?
Yes. Writing, photos, audio, location, calendar, map, and search remain free. Shiori Plus is optional and adds reminders, backup, PDF export, and deeper reflections.
How do I restore a purchase?
Open Settings, choose Shiori Plus, and tap “Restore Purchases.” Make sure the iPhone is signed in with the same Apple Account used for the purchase.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Open iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Canceling does not delete your diary; saved entries remain available through the free features.
How do backup and restore work?
Shiori Diary creates a local backup file containing your entries, photos, audio, daily notes, categories, and settings. Store it somewhere you trust. Restore merges entries and skips duplicates.
How do I delete all data?
Use the data deletion option in the app’s Settings. Photos already copied to the Photos app must be deleted separately.
